This event is the fourth in a series of Light Reading Live "Backhaul Strategies" events, following on our tremendously successful inaugural events in New York (September 2006), London (December 2006), and Atlanta (April 2007). We will provide qualified attendees from among Light Reading's global audience of more than 100,000 service provider and carrier employees an exclusive and intensive education in how best to lower the cost per bit of transporting traffic across mobile operators' backhaul networks.

Backhaul Strategies for Mobile Operators: Europe 2007, will take place in Berlin on Wednesday, June 27, 2007. The primary goals of this conference are:

  • To assess the impact on backhaul network requirements from mobile broadband services, including new capabilities that are in the early stages of being deployed, such as High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA).

  • To engage mobile operators and equipment vendors in a dialogue about the timescales for Ethernet-based backhaul. This will encompass issues of availability, cost, underlying transport media, and bullet-proofing for enhanced levels of reliability and security.

  • To provide a broad view of backhaul technology trends across the wide variety of different product types in the mobile network that affect the cost to the operator of backhauling 2G and 3G traffic through the network.

  • To provide a status update on backhaul migration strategies for GSM and W-CDMA operators in Europe, detailing how far some of them have come in deploying some of these technologies, and explaining the pace at which different technologies are being adopted.

The legacy cost structure of the backhaul network is the single biggest obstacle to mobile operators making money out of mobile broadband services and realizing the long-term vision of competing effectively with wireline broadband capabilities like DSL.
Backhaul Strategies for Mobile Operators: Europe 2007 will help ensure attendees understand the risk of failing to upgrade their backhaul networks (at least to the level of their competitors) and the opportunity presented by leading the market in terms of the impact on operating margins.

Event attendees who register before June 25 will receive the following:

1. FREE Unstrung Insider, "Wireless Backhaul & 3G Economics," by Gabriel Brown - value $900

2. Hard copy of conference materials and soft copy via email post-event
