Light Reading's next installment of the Backhaul Strategies series will be staged in New York City on Tuesday, June 25th, at a time when leading mobile operators are making made good progress in their transition to packet backhaul networks with fiber and IP/Ethernet technologies.

As well as continuing to support growing traffic volumes, this year's event will track how operator attention is now also focusing on the end-to-end optimization of packet services as network and services move to all-IP architectures. Dedicated sessions will examine how the rapidly evolving characteristics of cloud services and the changing nature of content and application delivery models, underline the case for software-defined networks and how that could impact the backhaul network. The critical contribution of Alternative Access Vendors (AVVS) such as wholesalers and cable operators, to the North American market will be addressed through focused panel sessions and operator keynotes.

This year's event will:
  • Give insight on T-Mobile's backhaul network architecture, the company's plan to evolve in the coming years to keep pace with changing patterns of demand.
  • Consider how the rapidly evolving characteristics of cloud services and the changing nature of content and application delivery models, underline the case for software-defined networks and the opportunities for mobile operators to optimize their packet transport networks to meet the demands of emerging cloud services.
  • Share Heavy Reading's perspective on the Backhaul and Evolved Packet Core networks.
  • Outline the role that alternatives like microwave, Free Space Optics and Bonded Copper can play as the number of 3G and 4G cell sites expand.
  • Review mobile operators trials of public access small cells as a means of expanding capacity
  • Explain present day benchmarks and upcoming cutting edge milestones in mobile backhaul performance assurance.
  • Look at how the S1 and X2 interfaces will evolve in the coming years.
