Back for its third year, Light Reading and Heavy Reading will host Green Broadband 2010: Devising Implementation Strategies for Cable Operators & Telcos, a one-day conference in New York, designed to provide telecom executives with a vital and concise summary of the challenges and opportunities network operators must consider in developing implementation strategies for green programs. There is little debate within the telecom industry that environmental initiatives are of paramount importance. But developing practical and justifiable implementation strategies can be difficult on several levels for a number of reasons. This conference will provide attendees with a better understanding of the risks and rewards involved, and offer practical advice as the implementation phase begins.

Among the key questions we will seek to answer:
  • What are the main challenges that network operators face in creating environmental implementation strategies?
  • What are the critical attributes of successful environmental business cases?
  • How can network operators leverage environmental programs to generate new revenue streams versus simply reducing capex and opex spend?
  • How important are KPIs?
  • What are the environmental impacts – both positive and negative – of creating smart homes?
  • What are the criteria (e.g., footprint, power consumption, etc.) that network operators view as critical to supporting an eco-driven business case?
  • How profound is the impact of ICT-based cross-industry initiatives such as Smart Grids on telecom providers?
  • When, if ever, will industry-wide guidelines become available?
  • When will environmental initiatives reach the mass implementation phase?
  • To what extent do government stimulus packages affect network operators’ green programs?
  • How effective are Green Fleet programs for reducing carbon emissions?
  • What role, if any, does the current level of economic uncertainty have on the planning cycle of green initiatives?
