Conference Program
- 09:00 a.m. - 09:30 a.m. Registration & Coffee
- 09:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Introduction
Simon Stanley, author of the Heavy Reading report, "ATCA, AMC, & MicroTCA:The Next Generation," sets the scene with a look at the specifications and market acceptance. The high-availability features built into ATCA, AMC, and MicroTCA open up new opportunities for semiconductor vendors, chassis and backplane vendors, telecom blade manufacturers, and networking system vendors to expand their businesses and bring down system and development costs.
- 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Roundtable: The Impact of ATCA
Light Reading's West Coast Editor, Craig Matsumoto, will facilitate this discussion on the impact that ATCA and other standardized platforms are having on the telecom market, covering the business benefits, system development, and future system deployments. What lessons have been learned, where are we now, and what are the key challenges going forward?
Panelists: Dharmaraja Rajan, Platform Product Manager, Nortel
Jim Lawrence, Chief Software Standards Officer, Enea
Venkataraman Prasannan, Senior Director, ATCA Product Line Management, RadiSys
Dan Leih, Product Marketing Manager, Embedded Computing, Emerson Network Power
Mark Butler, Product Line Director, Sun Microsystems
- 11:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Break
- 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Panel Session: ATCA Flexibility & Performance
The ATCA platform has become a truly flexible and interoperable COTS solution throughout the next-generation telecom ecosystem. The development of blades and systems incorporating the latest multicore processors and 10-Gbit/s switching has taken ATCA to the next performance level, extending the range of applications from wireless infrastructure through IMS to IPTV and beyond.
Panelists: Ian MacMillan, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Interphase
Venkataraman Prasannan, Senior Director, ATCA Product Line Management, RadiSys
Dan Leih, Product Marketing Manager, Embedded Computing, Emerson Network Power
Sven Freudenfeld, North American Business Development, Kontron
- 12:15 p.m. - 01:30 p.m. Lunch & Table-Top Displays
- 01:30 p.m. - 02:30 p.m. Panel Session: Off-the-shelf Software & ATCA Applications
Software is a key part of any telecom system, and developers have a wide range of off-the-shelf solutions to choose from, including carrier-grade Linux, SA Forum compliant middleware, databases, and other common building blocks. Key applications for ATCA-based platforms include wireless infrastructure, IMS, communication servers, and multiservice access platforms.
Panelists: Jim Lawrence, Chief Software Standards Officer, Enea
Rod Anliker, Software Product Line Manager, Embedded Computing, Emerson Network Power
Eric Gregory, ATCA Product Manager, Radisys Corporation
Philippe Chevallier, System Architect, Continuous Computing
- 02:30 p.m. - 02:45 p.m. Break
- 02:45 p.m. - 03:30 p.m. Keynote: Murray Cooke, Chief Business Services Architect, British Telecom Group
Murray will discuss the applications for ATCA, AMC, and MicroTCA technologies in telco next-generation networks and the changing requirements from carriers for flexible solutions. He will also review the current maturity of ATCA product offerings and identify challenges for vendors and their customers.
- 03:30 p.m. - 04:30 p.m. Panel Session: MicroTCA & AMCs Enable a Common Platform for Communications
With smaller form factors and lower costs, MicroTCA is already gaining significant interest from system vendors. One common theme running through the initial applications for MicroTCA is communications with standard building blocks, including general purpose processors and DSP-based AMCs, being used across telecom, military, and other markets. Typical telecom applications include WiMax, VOIP gateways, and multiservice access platforms.
Panelists: Jim Lawrence, Chief Software Standards Officer, Enea
Mark Overgaard, Founder, Pigeon Point Systems
- 04:30 p.m. - 06:30 p.m. Cocktail Reception & Table-Top Displays
