If what you mean is "fiber to the proposition upon which an argument is based or from which a conclusion is drawn," then fine. I'm with ya'. But if, as I suspect, your fibrous target is "land and the buildings upon it," then the mot juste is premiseS. Always has, always (Darwin willing) will be.
