Iron Man vs Speed Racer

4:50 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • Iron Man brought in $40 million in box office receipts, while Speed Racer bombed. Could it have anything to do with the differences in their viral Web marketing? Or is Robert Downey Jr. just more likable than Emile What's-his-name?

  • Break out the granola -- thePlatform will power online video for PBS's sites, including PBS.org, PBSKids.org, PBSParents.org, and PBSTeachers.org, and local sites.

  • Startup Veodia racked up $8.3 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Clearstone Venture Partners, D. E. Shaw & Co. LP, and an angel group headed by iParadigms chairman Steven Berger.

And, in today's News Bits: The CD is still alive and kicking; Clear Channel is considering partnering with Pandora; and HBO shows like Sex and the City and The Sopranos will now be available on iTunes -- some for a dollar more than other shows available at the online store.
