CAMBRIDGE, U.K. -- ip.access is today announcing the launch of its nanoGSMTM IP BSC, a basestation controller, to complement its all-IP GSM offering. The nanoGSM IP BSC has been designed specifically for use with the world's smallest basestation, the nanoBTSTM, as part of a GSM network.
The nanoGSM solution allows network operators to add extra GSM
capacity, coverage and services simply and cost effectively in areas
such as shopping centres, airports and the underground, with
applications covering retail and wireless office. In the wireless
office, landlines are replaced by mobile phones, allowing workers more
freedom and flexibility as well as benefits such as one phone, one
number, one voicemail and one contacts book.
The IP BSC is a software component that utilises standard computing
platforms. It provides channel allocation functions, GPRS management
and media gateway control protocol client functionality for easy
integration with mobile softswitches and VoIP networks. It processes
handover candidate selection according to user selectable and
configurable algorithms, and hosts a CORBA based management agent to
simplify operations and maintenance in the nanoGSM(tm) basestation sub-system solution. It also manages the collection and distribution
of performance and quality of service measures within the basestation
sub-system, and SMS-Cell Broadcast for the BTSs under its control.
Traditional functionality normally found in a BSC is implemented in a
separate off-the-shelf media gateway. This allows the IP BSC to
operate as a GSM specific signalling gateway, with optimal
cost/functionality trade-off to the benefit of all ip.access'
