BARCELONA -- Mobile World Congress 2012 -- Cisco Systems Inc. CEO John Chambers used his keynote in Spain Tuesday to reveal that the networking giant will be following many of its infrastructure rivals in delivering a tiny base station of its own.

Chambers briefly mentioned small cells, "which we and others are announcing at the show," in the context of a larger talk about cloud computing. In the same breath, Chambers linked femtos with Wi-Fi offload as a tool for operators managing data traffic, hinting at the approach that Cisco will likely take with these edge-of-network radio access boxes.

More will be revealed Tuseday afternoon as Cisco officially unveils its small cell. We'll update on the small cell when we have more details.

For Chambers, however, a small cell and other new products are just one part of a massive overhaul for the entire industry in developing global cloud coverage for both business and personal use.

"Every person in this room will have their own personal cloud," Chambers declared to a packed audience in Hall 5 at the Fira.

"I think it's a $53 billion to $58 billion market within two years," he declared, urging the industry to adapt or get left behind.
