Announces availability of the Apollo, a MEMS-based, tunable, external cavity laser

SAN JOSE, Calif. -– iolon, Inc., a privately held opticalnetworking component company, today announced the availability of Apollo, aMEMS-based tunable external cavity laser (ECL). Designed to maximize theefficiency and flexibility of long haul, ultra long haul, and metro corenetworks, Apollo enables rapid and flexible bandwidth provisioningcapabilities in transmission equipment for next generation optical networks.The iolon Apollo tunable laser is currently being sampled by major equipmentvendors and will be generally available in the fourth quarter of 2001.

"iolon's Apollo is aimed at a market that we expect to grow to $1.5 billionby 2004," said Tom Hausken, senior analyst, Strategies Unlimited. "Theinitial demand for high powered, tunable lasers, like iolon's, is in thelong haul and ultra long haul networks."
