Chipmaker stumps up $500 million for WiMax

8:30 AM -- Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) just joined the WiMax party in Taiwan in a big way with a promise to pump $500 million into the country over the next five years, most of which is earmarked for mobile WiMax. The chipmaker's WiMax investment adds to the Taiwanese government's pledge of $664 million for the country's national mobile WiMax program, M-Taiwan. (See Taiwan's WiMax.)
