HBO Selects Level 3 as a CDN provider for HBO GO mobile app delivery

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:LVLT - News) today announced it has been selected by HBO to be a provider of content delivery network (CDN) services supporting the new HBO GO mobile app delivery initiative. The application, which launched on May 2, gives HBO subscribers access to HBO programming on their Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch as well as select Android devices. To enable delivery of this premium media content, HBO will leverage Level 3's expertise and network capacity for delivering bandwidth-intensive content to mobile devices.

"We rely on Level 3 as a trusted CDN partner, and we've been truly impressed with the quality of their video delivery services, as well as the level of responsiveness and expertise we are getting from their team," said Greg Fittinghoff, senior vice president of Corporate Systems and Infrastructure at HBO. "They've been there with us every step of the way as we've developed this new offering, and we're confident in their ability to enable HBO's delivery of a premium mobile viewing experience for our subscribers."

The HBO GO mobile app is free of charge to HBO subscribers through a participating television provider. The application provides HBO subscribers in the U.S. with instant, exclusive access to more than 1,400 titles, including every episode of every season of the best HBO shows. Level 3's CDN platform provides a medium for subscribers to access this unique content whenever and wherever they want.
