3:40 PM, PDT -- Phil, I also had some glitches getting the broadband to work over at the Treasure Island.

Here was my solution:1) Rip the gray Ethernet cable out of the back of the black-adapter-with-feeble-Ethernet-cord-extender-and-power-socket doohickey.

2) Plug the gray Ethernet cable running from the wall directly into laptop.

This seemed to generate a connection for me. I'll look into expensing the damages to that poor black adapter thingy, whose feeble Ethernet-extender-cable thing seemed a little too fragile for my frustration.
