Small cell maker Airspan Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRN) has acquired fixed wireless startup Mimosa for an undisclosed sum to add more next-generation chops to its mobile portfolio, the company announced Wednesday.

Airspan Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRN) is largely known as the producer of Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S)'s "Magic Box" small cell. The small cell is known for being able to connect with a Sprint cellsite over a 2.5GHz or 1900MHz connection. (See Sprint's Next Trick? Airspan's acquisition of Mimosa adds fixed wireless gigabit capabilities to its arsenal. Mimosa is already selling its multi-megabit offering to C-Spire, which is using the technology to offer what it is marketing as a '5G' service. C-Spire is using sub-6GHz frequencies for its service: The Mimosa technology enables downstream speeds of up to 120 Mbit/s.

Airspan says it will expand its offerings into 5G and Citizens Band Radio Service (CBRS) 3.5GHz LTE.
