Patent Hoarder Adaptix Takes On T-Mobile & NSN

Adaptix Inc. is suing Nokia Siemens Networks and T-Mobile USA in the same East Texas court where it's targeting LightSquared and NSN with a similar patent complaint.

Patent hoarder Adaptix filed suit Friday (May 11) against T-Mobile and its vendor in Tyler, Texas.

Adaptix holds 4G-related wireless patents related to Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) and multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) radio technology. It alleges that NSN's SingleRAN Flexi Multiradio base station, which it claims T-Mobile uses, infringes on five of its patents and is seeking damages. The latest suit cites the same patents tied to Adaptix's complaint against LightSquared and NSN.

These patents relate to:

  • Multi-carrier communications with adaptive cluster configuration and switching (the '172 patent)
  • Channel allocation in broadband orthogonal frequency-division multiple access/space division multiple-access networks (the '808 patent)
  • Method and system for switching antenna and channel assignments in broadband wireless networks (the '851 patent)
  • Multi-carrier communications with group-based subcarrier allocation (the '283 patent)
  • Medium access control for orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) cellular networks (the '315 patent)

Why this matters
Adaptix has been going after 4G-related patents hard this year. The firm has also separately filed suit against Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. in recent months.
