EuroProfile: Net Insight

September 12, 2012 | Paul Rainford |

If you're looking for a company with a long track record in video-centric transport infrastructure, it won't be long before you find your way to Net Insight AB.

The equipment vendor has been around for 15 years and in that time has built up a client list that runs to more than 150 companies, including familiar names such as TeliaSonera AB and Telenor ASA. (See Swisscom Transports Video With Net Insight, Net Insight Wins KPN Deal and TeliaSonera Selects Net Insight.)

A Swedish company with satellite offices in the U.S. and elsewhere, Net Insight is in the business of specialist video transport, with the Nimbra media switch router (MSR) at the core of its offer.

During the past week the company has been at the annual IBC video and TV technology event, showing off its new media gateway. (See Net Insight Shows Media Access Gateway at IBC.)

The company says its systems offer network operators the ability to monitor each service individually within the IP network -- what Net Insight calls "service-centric network management." Key to the company's pitch is its claim that native IP networks aren't up to the task of handling video traffic efficiently. (See Net Insight Offers IPTV Alternative.)

Net Insight's MSRs have played a part in the transmission of numerous high-profile live events, from the Beijing Olympics to -- music lovers, look away now -- the Eurovision Song Contest.

Movie lovers, though, should check out the table below to see which 1970s classic has been chosen by CEO Fredrik Trägårdh as his big screen favorite. "Nurse Ratched!!"
