European Operators Select OSS Suppliers

Two European cable operators, Liwest Kabelmedien of Austria and Cabovis‹o of Portugal, announced operations support system (OSS) software deals with suppliers this month. Both Liwest and Cabovis‹o are using C-COR Inc.'s Service Activation Manager (SAM) for high-speed data and IP phone services, while Cabovis‹o is also using the platform to support television services. Additionally, Liwest has deployed Sigma Systems' Service Management Platform to support its IP phone offering. At Liwest, the the Sigma platform interfaces with billing, order entry and network facing infrastructure, including C-COR's SAM, which handles device provisioning and other functions.Liwest is Austria's second-largest cable operator, passing some 140,000 homes. The operator counts 105,000 video customers as well as 30,000 high-speed data and 8,000 telephone subscribers. Cabovis‹o is Portugal's number-two cable provider with more than 240,000 residential customers. In other news, Motive Inc. has helped Netherlands cable provider Casema create a customer self-help offering (that's 'snel help' in Dutch). Casema SnelHelp is available online or on the phone and delivers automated assistance for setting up, managing and troubleshooting Internet service delivery. In the future, Casema plans to add automated support for wireless home networking and VoIP. Casema serves 1.4 million subscribers.
