8:45 AM -- The latest telecom tidbits from India include M&A speculation, further mobile growth statistics, and allegations of financial improprieties. Oh yeah...

  • While the IT sector is mulling over who might take a majority stake in troubled IT services firm Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE: SAY), one of its potential suitors, Tech Mahindra Ltd. , is rumored to be sizing up another acquisition. Check out this report from the Economic Times.

  • February's GSM growth numbers have been released by the Cellular Operators Association of India . Nearly 9.2 million GSM connections were activated last month, taking the total to 277.1 million.

    We'll report in greater detail once the CDMA subscriber numbers are released later this month and the overall wireless market growth can be assessed. At the end of January, there were 362.3 million activated wireless connections -– what nobody knows just yet is how many of those lines are in active use.   • Just one day after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced a cut in voice call interconnect fees, the Economic Times reports on allegations of tax avoidance related to interconnect fees. Check out the newspaper's detailed report.
