Xbox IPTV Frenzy

4:35 PM -- The Xbox 360 blogosphere -- yes, it's an entity unto itself -- was all aflutter yesterday when one guy discovered IPTV-like features among his menu options. He'd gotten the Xbox back from repairs, and the software update kicked the IPTV menu into gear.

That's a mistake, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) says: The IPTV choices aren't supposed to be visible yet. The official word: IPTV for the Xbox 360 rolls out to service providers by the end of this year. The providers will then decide when to start deploying Xbox 360s with Microsoft's Mediaroom IPTV platform installed.

Xboxic reiterates the story, which broke on Xbox 360 Fanboy, but the comments add this amusing exchange (spelling/punctuation corrected):

  • "When is the fall update coming out anyway?"
    "In the spring."
