New titles underline company's strategic focus

12:30 PM -- Kevin Mitchell, Acme Packet Inc. (Nasdaq: APKT)'s former director of solutions marketing, has a new title. He is hereby known as Acme Packet's "director of wireless solutions marketing." Or if you prefer, the company's "director of solutions marketing, wireless." (Perhaps "director of marketing, wireless solutions"?)

The company also hired Jim Slaby, former director of solutions marketing at mesh WiFi/WiMax vendor BelAir Networks Inc. , to the role of "director of enterprise & contact center solutions marketing."

Interestingly enough, there's no "director of wireline solutions marketing." Why not?

"Our core business between cable and wireline is more mature. We have dedicated some additional efforts for emerging markets, which are enterprise and wireless. We've just dedicated more resources to the emerging segments," Mitchell says.

So Acme isn't de-emphasizing the more mature wireline market... Just putting a little more weight behind those other segments.
