OSLO, Norway -- On Wednesday, Telenor introduces its broadband telephony product to the consumer market. Telenor now provides a full range of telephony services, and customers are offered traditional fixed telephony, mobile telephony and broadband telephony.

"In developing our broadband telephony solution we have focused on making our product highly competitive with respect to price. We have also focused on supplying a high-quality service that is as safe and simple as the current technology permits. I am confident that we have succeeded in ensuring these factors," said director of Telenor's Consumer Division, Berit Kjøll.

Telenor has conducted thorough preliminary research before launch, approaching customers to find out what they look for in a broadband telephony product. Four central elements stand out from the feedback Telenor received: quality, subscription rates, simplicity and safety. We have incorporated these elements into our product, as outlined in the table below:

During the initial phase Telenor's broadband telephony product will only be offered to Telenor's Online ADSL customers.

"It is an advantage for us and our customers that we are familiar with the solutions that are installed in the homes of our end-users. Customers can direct all enquiries to Telenor if they experience any problems, irrespective of whether these problems are related to the telephony solution or to the Internet," said Kjøll. We have also placed special emphasis on providing thorough information to our customers when they order the product. We want our customers to have an active understanding of what they get when they choose broadband telephony.

Broadband telephony involves sending voice signals via a broadband connection rather than via the traditional telephony network. Telenor's broadband telephony solution is provided by Hewlett-Packard, which has extensive experience from telecommunications and IP telephony. The solution is based on future-oriented technology, and involves opportunities for new and exciting services.
