ATLANTA--For a year since Lucent Technologies Inc. http://www.lucent.com bought terabit startup Nexabit Networks, rumors have circulated that the NX64000 terabit switch-router was a dud. Mukesh Chatter, Nexabit's founder and vice president and general manager of Lucent core routing technologies, left last month, fuelling rumors that the terabit router was little more than vaporware (see Chatter's New Box). But today, at the Supercomm trade show in Atlanta, the NX64000 was finally unveiled in public for the first time. Using Agilent Technologies' http://www.agilent.com traffic simulator, Lucent demonstrated a NX64000 with 64 ports of OC-48 (see Agilent Tester Breaks New Ground).

The vendor also announced a half-pint-sized version of the chassis called the NX32000 which, as the name suggests, is half the size and half the capacity of its big brother the NX64000. Additionally, Lucent announced V.Cities http://www.vccities.com, a small service provider, as its latest customer win.
