IP PBXs: Looking for an Upside in a Down Economy
Although there has not been a large increase in IP PBX sales, there is still a need for the technology, especially among enterprises that need cost savings, increases in productivity, and better efficiency. Additionally, the need for IP PBX has trickled down in the marketplace, with small and medium-size businesses (SMBs) now garnering a great deal of attention from vendors.

As the economy continues its sluggish pace and unemployed workers look to start up new businesses instead of heading back into the ranks of existing companies, the need for telecom technologies that provide inexpensive unified communications with a variety of applications is on the rise. However, that does not mean that IP PBX vendors can sit back and wait for customers to knock down their doors. In fact, one of the biggest hurdles the industry faces is the lack of knowledge and education about VoIP in general, and especially about the benefits of IP PBX.

It may be easy to have a doomsday attitude about the economy, but the fact is that it presents both a challenge and opportunity over the next 12 months. Vendors will have the opportunity to generate cost savings while enhancing productivity and increasing customer service; however, they will also need to better define their offers and value propositions.

IP PBXs: Looking for an Upside in a Down Economy provides an in-depth look at the IP PBX market, including a comparative analysis of IP PBX solutions – broken down by their integration features, software and hardware support, management and installation features, security features, and quality of service (QoS) support. It also examines the vertical market strengths and strategies for various vendors in the IP PBX market. The report also examines challenges the market continues to face, trends to expect in the future, and the expected impact of the economy on the industry, as well as a competitive analysis of ten of the top IP PBX vendors.

Sample research data from the report is shown in the excerpts below:

In the early days of the IP PBX industry, most big-name vendors only wanted large enterprise customers that were ready to replace legacy systems. As IP understanding and acceptance has gained traction, overall acceptance of the systems has increased. Additionally, newer vendors have entered the market, causing the price to decrease, while the target markets for such systems has broadened to include small and medium enterprises. The following is a detailed analysis of IP PBX solutions provided by ten of the top IP PBX vendors that introduces the vendors, their solutions, and the target business size that each is addressing.
