Liberty Global, the international cable networking giant with operations across major territories in Europe, has named Versa as its "preferred supplier" for SD-WAN capabilities.

It's part of Liberty Global Inc. (Nasdaq: LBTY)'s drive to build up its business services portfolio for large enterprise and government customers. SD-WAN is key to that strategy, providing flexible and easily deployable connectivity for enterprise branches.

Liberty's biggest business services unit is Virgin Media Business Ltd. (VMB), part of Virgin Media in the UK. VMB will take the lead in deploying Versa technology for Liberty and launching cloud SD-WAN services, which should be commercially available later this year.

VMB went through a six-month RFI and RFQ process, selecting Versa for innovation and speed for corporate and government customers, Liberty says.

Liberty expects SD-WAN will help the company expand across Europe, including forays into Germany, Belgium and Switzerland, the company says.

Part of Versa's appeal is it doesn't have legacy tie-in to specific customer premises equipment (CPE), instead having a set of preferred CPE partners, Liberty says.
