When the network fails, users don't know the cause of the problem. They just know that their applications have stopped working -- and so have they.

That's the problem Nyansa is addressing with Voyance+, the latest version of its Voyance network analytics service.

"If your car stopped running on the highway, you know it stopped running but you don't know why," GT Hill, director of technology and product marketing for Nyansa, tells Light Reading. Voyance+ finds cloud application performance problems, flags problems for attention, and recommends remediation in plain English.

Voyance+ measures performance of individual cloud, universal communications, and voice-over-WiFi applications, supporting hundreds of applications, including Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) Skype for Business, Office 365, SAP AG (NYSE/Frankfurt: SAP), Facebook , YouTube Inc. , Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX), as well as custom apps. Voyance+ correlates application performance with performance metrics on WiFi, campus LAN and network services, the user device, and the Internet.

Voyance+ establishes a baseline of normal performance for an individual enterprise's network, and flags deviations from that performance. It lets enterprises compare their performance against similar companies.

And it also quantifies how many hours of user productivity is lost due to network outages.

Voyance+ runs as a service in the cloud, connecting with a software agent called a "crawler" that sits out-of-band off a network switch, doing deep packet inspection (DPI) on every network packet.

Nyansa started two years ago in April by three founders educated at MIT and Harvard, with experience working at Aruba and Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO). It now numbers 25 developers. The company received a $12 million Series A funding round from Formation 8, and expects to go for another round in the first quarter of next year.

The first version of Voyance launched in April, measuring performance of client endpoints.

Voyance+, available immediately, is priced starting at $27,000 per year for up to 1,000 user and 100 access points, with discounts for volume and longer contracts available.
