Juniper Networks has tapped a top-ranking Google engineer as its next CTO.

Bikash Koley, who has been instrumental in Google's network plans, is slated to replace Juniper Co-Founder Pradeep Sindhu, who stepped down from the CTO position earlier this to year to focus more on his current startup firm. However, Sindhu remains at Juniper with the title of chief scientist. (See Juniper Co-Founder Sindhu Steps Back.)

Juniper announced Koley's appointment in a July 18 statement. He's expected to start his new position sometime in August.

At Google, Koley holds the title of distinguished engineer, as well as head of network architecture, engineering and planning. As Light Reading's Craig Matsumoto writes, Koley has been a major player in Google's networking plans, as well as frequent speaker at many of the publication's events.
