NEW YORK -- Silver Lake Partners, the leading private equity firm focused on large-scale investing in mature technology companies, announced today that Michael D. Capellas, a 30-year veteran of information technology businesses, has joined the firm as a senior advisor.

Capellas will work closely with the senior leadership and value creation teams at Silver Lake to help identify and develop new investment opportunities and provide expertise and counsel to Silver Lake’s growing number of portfolio companies.

Capellas is a prominent technology industry executive who joins Silver Lake after nearly four years at MCI as president and chief executive officer from December 2002 through January 2006, where he led the company through the largest corporate reorganization in history and oversaw MCI’s merger with Verizon Communications. Since then, Capellas has been serving on the board of directors of Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, and, prior to joining MCI, he was president of Hewlett-Packard Company, a leading global provider of products, technologies, solutions and services to consumers and businesses. Capellas has also served as the chairman and CEO of Compaq Computer Corporation, having joined the company in 1998 as chief information officer and also serving as chief operating officer before being named CEO in July 1999.

Glenn Hutchins, managing director and a co-founder of Silver Lake, said, "I am thrilled to have Michael in the Silver Lake family. His extraordinary track record of technological vision, management success, and value creation in our target industries is without parallel. I have no doubt that he will make an enormous contribution to the operational excellence of our portfolio companies."
