VANCOUVER -- Dyaptive Systems today announced the general availability of the DMTS-8000, the first solution capable of testing and optimizing Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless network operation for peak-load performance. With the DMTS, CDMA base station manufacturers and network operators can cost-effectively perform deterministic, repeatable tests and re-create problems detected in the field. In turn, they tune infrastructure for optimal performance - even in the most challenging periods of network activity. Manufacturers gain a toolkit for preventing expensive field failures and verifying performance claims; operators reduce the risks and costs associated with introduction and ongoing management of wireless offerings.

US Bancorp estimates that $36 billion was spent on wireless network infrastructure in 2003. Twelve percent of that total was devoted to optimization at deployment, according to inCode Telecom. Despite spending more than $4 billion, however, manufacturers and operators had no cost-effective, practical way to ensure that networks would deliver required performance levels when handling the various load profiles associated with mixed voice and data traffic.

"Dyaptive's solution is a compelling innovation because it takes the question marks out of quality," said Deb Mielke, Managing Director of Treillage Network Strategies. "CDMA network performance is inherently load-dependent, but simulating peak loads hasn't been easy or affordable with traditional test technologies. Vendors and service providers have sought a tool for performing predictable, deterministic, repeatable tests, so Dyaptive has identified a clear industry need."

The DMTS is a programmable device capable of cost-efficiently producing equivalent load of up to 2,000 mobile terminals. With the Dyaptive solution loading their products and infrastructure with up to two million calls per hour, wireless vendors and operators for the first time are able to simulate the busiest periods of network activity. Traditionally, banks of mobile phones have been used for test and verification, but these "load boxes" cannot produce the deterministic, coordinated and repeatable load of the DMTS. Also, the Dyaptive solution eliminates the radio-frequency interference, cabling and other issues common with load boxes.

The DMTS can simulate a wide range of real-world voice and data profiles, plus mobility and multi-path fading scenarios. Given a better tool for verifying the functionality and optimal settings of their CDMA infrastructure equipment, Dyaptive customers reduce blocked, dropped and lost calls. Because the solution can be reconfigured quickly for different tests, the DMTS dramatically speeds deployment and simplifies ongoing maintenance of offerings such as third-generation ("3G") data services, including wireless email, Internet access, digital photo sharing and geographic positioning.

"CDMA networks are poised for tremendous growth, especially in 3G data services, and we are committed to enabling that growth," said Steven Szabo, Vice President, Business Development with Dyaptive. "The DMTS is a revolutionary CDMA toolkit - the first to cost-effectively generate rigorous, real-world load profiles of mixed voice and data traffic in high-mobility, dynamic environments requiring frequent handoffs among network sectors. A better tool for CDMA performance testing and optimization will translate into more profitable deployment and operation of wireless networks by our customers."
