ANDevices Doubles RevenuesMarch 1, 2006 | Comments (4)
no ratings FREMONT, Calif. -- ANDevices, Inc., a leading vendor of planar lightwave circuit (PLC) devices, is planning for growing product demand. In 2005, ANDevices doubled revenues relative to 2004. Growth is expected to continue at a similar pace through 2007. According to Dr. Jacob Sun, President & CEO, “We have formed close strategic relationships with tier-1 system and sub-system vendors to provide critical components for long-haul, metro and local access markets. This strategy has clearly worked, as the recent proliferation of ROADM and FTTH networks has stimulated demand for our products. Our engineering and manufacturing staff has done an outstanding job supporting our customers, who in response are placing more orders.” ANDevices has furthermore formed an alliance with a contract manufacturing partner in Asia to capture the demand growth. The company has expanded its communication product line to include AWGs up to 80 channels with densities as fine as 25 GHz, colorless AWG devices, VOA integrated Multiplexers up to 40 channels, and tap/monitoring products including integrated photodiode arrays. TODC (tunable optical dispersion compensators) are under evaluation by tier-1 system vendors, and are expected to rise in demand to extend the reach of long-haul networks and enhance the agility of Metro networks. In addition to the communications market, the company anticipates growth in the aerospace, instrumentation, material processing, bio-sensor and consumer electronics sectors. According to Dr. Sun, “We have been pleasantly surprised by increasing interest outside of communications. Our ability to design and fabricate custom waveguides operating from the visible through the IR spectrum has attracted a lot of attention.” Dr. Tingye Li, a former manager of AT&T Bell Labs and AT&T Labs, and a well-recognized industry pioneer, said “ANDevices is pushing the limits of PLC technology to yield the best performance in the industry. The engine of ANDevices’ rapid growth lies fundamentally with its customer-focused team who provides reliable products in a timely manner. Broadening of PLC technology into new product areas is based on ANDevices’ exceptional ability to rapidly design and prototype devices which meet customer expectations the first time”. Another integrated optics pioneer, Dr. Tadashi Miyashita, who led NTT’s development of PLC technology in the 1980’s and founded the most successful PLC company, PIRI, had the following comments, “ANDevices has proven itself as a reliable supplier of complex, multi-functional PLC based products. They are fulfilling the promise envisioned years ago, namely to replace a wide range of discrete optical components with low-cost, easily manufacturable integrated devices.”
