CounterPath Powers Yak VOIPNovember 7, 2005 | Comments (2)
no ratings VANCOUVER and TORONTO -- CounterPath Solutions, Inc. (formerly Xten Networks, Inc.) (OTCBB: CTPS), a premier provider of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), Video over IP, Instant Messaging (IM), and Presence-enabled SIP softphones and Yak Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: YAKC), a provider of telecommunication services to residential and business customers, announced today that they have entered into an agreement allowing Yak to launch a powerful new voice and video peer-to-peer VoIP alternative for consumers around the world. Yak expects to launch its "yakForFree" VoIP (http://www.yakforfree.com) service powered by CounterPath's eyeBeam SIP softphones in mid November. yakForFree is an exciting new service from Yak which allows users to make FREE voice and video calls to anyone on the Internet who is also a yak member of yakForFree. Yak will be licensing some of CounterPath's core softphone technologies. "yakForFree has the potential to reach millions of people worldwide, establishing Yak as a premier global VoIP provider," said Charles Zwebner, Chairman and CEO. "We expect yakForFree to further demonstrate the quality and value of our VoIP and Video calling capabilities and assist Yak to transition from a legacy telephony company into a next generation, Internet based communications and commerce company." "yakForFree will allow users to establish and maintain voice and video communication with family, friends and colleagues and to reach a far more geographically-diverse population than ever before without technology," said David Hurwitz, President of Yak's VoIP initiatives. "We will invite yakForFree members to recruit their friends and families, and encourage them to upgrade to one or more of our paying programs - "yakToAnyone" (a PC-to-Phone, talk and video Pre-Paid service), "yakBasic" or "yakUnlimited" subscription plans, that allows subscribers to make and receive calls over high speed DSL or cable internet access to virtually any telephone or cell phone worldwide. This agreement with CounterPath allows Yak to charge ahead with its VoIP initiatives and deepen its penetration in the VoIP marketplace." "We are looking forward to jointly working with Yak and the compelling business model that they are putting into the marketplace," stated Mark Bruk, Chairman and CEO of CounterPath. "Our agreement continues to validate our strategy of working with leading, high quality service providers in developing solutions for their customers. We are looking forward to working together to enhance Yak's voice and video service offerings with our high quality, rich and robust applications." CounterPath Solutions Inc. (OTC: CTPS)
