AMSTERDAM -- Broadband World Forum -- The Dutch capital might not have greeted Europe's broadband brethren with warm and sunny weather, but the mood was bright on the show floor at the RAI exhibition center as fiber, DSL, home networks and software-defined networking (SDN) dominated discussions.
To get a flavor of the show, here's a selection of our video and written reports from the event.
But we also had our camera to hand: Check out the sights by clicking on the picture below to launch the slide show.
Tektronix Teases the Tastebuds
Tektronix wowed the show's attendees with an ice cream van and associated giant plastic ornaments that were just begging to be redeployed next to garden gnomes...
All the pictures and captions are ours (which explains the quality...)
If you're in the mood for nostalgia, here are the pics from last year's show in Paris:
No argument here. At VMworld, when Veeam brought out bacon -- no frills, nothing to put it on, just bacon -- the commotion came quickly. And it was fun.
I still don't know what Veeam does. But to your point -- I wouldn't be typing their name this many times if it weren't for the bacon.
Street magicians still draw a crowd, too, which is actually less understandable. You've seen the tricks. Whereas bacon and coffee are in inexhaustible demand.
So, I know we have fun with the pics of the food and drink and stuff, but.... which stands have the most traffic on show floors these days? Would Spirent have a long queue of people willing to wait for five minutes at its stand at MWC if Daisy Rollo wasn't making her amazing coffee there? (no harm to Spirent here but its footfall is greatly increased, as intended, by having Daisy there...)
These marketing moves draw folk in and they draw in our cameras. If you're handing out leaflets and showing a box/widget/etc and are giving away a cheap pen, then good luck....
Of course yo need something that people will want and it will cost money but with a bit of imagination and by pandering to the needs of people (drink, food, gifts, a massage etc) then you will attract more engagements. Including ours.
