Light Reading is set to present the winners of the 2012 Leading Lights Awards and five new entrants into the Light Reading Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Hilton New York.
The awards were judged by Light Reading editors, with help from Heavy Reading and Pyramid Research analysts, and feedback from our network of sources throughout the industry.

The Leading Lights program focuses on next-generation communications technology, applications, and services, and it rewards the companies that have performed well over the past year. Light Reading's Hall of Fame seeks to recognize several individuals -- the famous and infamous -- for their remarkable influence and contributions to the sector.
Is this award geared toward service providers only, or would a software/services vendor qualify?
Answer:
Our past winners have included Apple, Microsoft and all the major telecom equipment makers. Any company creating products and services for next-gen communications networks may enter.
It's up to you to convince the category editor that the product you're nominating is SO DIFFERENT than what precdeded it that it MUST be considered new.
My favorite example is the Windows product line from Microsoft. Yes, Microsoft has called every PC operating system it made since 1982 "Windows." But Windows '95 and Windows XP were very different products, even though they both ended up being great excuses to switch to a Mac.
Light Reading closed its last contest to entries on Sept. 16, 2011. That is the first date that any product or service is eligible for the 2012 Leading Lights.
