Photos: Connected World's M2M Jam

ST. CHARLES, Ill. -- The road to 50 billion connections is paved with questions.

Some of those that popped up at Connected World Magazine's machine-to-machine (M2M) conference Tuesday included:

  • "What's the best network, 2G, 3G or 4G?"
  • "What business models will encourage multiple-device ownership?"
  • And even, "What exactly is M2M, and do tablets count?"

The answers varied based on who was giving them. T-Mobile USA says 2G's here to stay, while Verizon Wireless says it's Long Term Evolution (LTE) all the way.

Amidst the discussion, Light Reading Mobile took some time to check out the suburban show floor, take a non-moving ride in a Ferrari and even put out a few fires.

Mega Machines
That's no ordinary convention center. It's the MegaCenter, just an hour (or two-and-a-half with traffic) outside of Chicago.

My mom just got a new car, and her only complaint is that the font on the display map is so small, she can't read it without her glasses. While sitting in the Ferrari concept car, it occured to me that all that connected car stuff is great, but maybe car makers should fix the basics before they start to get too fancy. Small fonts and poor mapping isn't going to help with distracted driving either if you have to get real close and stare at the map to see it.
