Hello,

I think Tim Jenks of Neophotonics should have been nominated as best deal maker of the year.

After all, he and his team managed an IPO this year and bought Santur for cash.  Not too many other optical companies out there making deals this year, and almost no one going IPO in this environmetnt.

You can think what you want about the sector (optical components and modules) and the company, but you gotta acknowledge that Tim is one heck of a deal maker.

Seven,

Your comment makes sense.  In addition, if Centurylink bought / merged with Sprint, it also gives them Sprint's quite robust and extensive fiber backbone.  Something Century could really use to link together it's various regions and properties and reduce long distance costs as well as overall transport costs.  having that backbone gives them similar advantages that Verizon got when they grabbed MCI.  And like the MCI buy, which Verizon did when MCI was "down" due to the Worldcom fiasco, Sprint is also "down" right now, so the buying price would be relatively lower than if Sprint were really going gangbusters and the economy was more healthy.

It certainly sems like that's where things are headed. And as all the budget-minded carriers (MetroPCS, Cricket) are expanding to cover more cities, those could be targets as well.

I know that this is early to post on this, but given everything else...think CenturyLink is going to buy a Wireless Carrier at some point (maybe Sprint?).
