Univision Taps CMC for VoDOctober 13, 2009 | Post a comment
no ratings DENVER -- Univision Communications Inc, the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., has selected the Comcast Media Center (CMC) to manage distribution of its "Univision On Demand” service, an extensive library of Spanish-language content, from its three linear networks - Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión. The CMC's national video on demand (VOD) platform, which reaches more than 35-million VOD-enabled TV households, offers rapid-turn capabilities for acquiring and encoding linear TV programs, such as live sports events, providing near real-time delivery to local VOD servers. Univision On Demand ('Univision Ordena y Disfruta' in Spanish), offers access to exclusive footage from Univision's top programs and biggest events including access to the world's largest sporting event, FIFA World CupT; "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina," the longest-running and most-watched awards show on Spanish-language TV honoring the best in Latin music; "Premios Juventud," Spanish-language TV's first and only awards show honoring idols of Hispanic youth in the areas of film, music, sports, fashion and pop culture; and many of Univision's lifestyle, news, sports and reality programs. The service is currently available in markets served by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS TV, and the CMC will be assisting Univision in rolling out Univision On Demand industry-wide in the coming months. “We are looking forward to supporting Univision in its efforts to offer a wide sampling of its content genres to the country’s Spanish-speaking households,” stated Gary Traver, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Comcast Media Center. “In addition, the availability of Univision On Demand via the CMC supports the objective of service providers serving over 90 percent of the country’s VOD-enabled households to make popular multicultural programming available to their customers.”
