Xantaro Designs German MPLS BackboneOctober 7, 2009 | Post a comment
no ratings COLOGNE, Germany -- Unitymedia, the second largest provider of media and communication services via broadband cable in Germany, appointed Xantaro to redesign the MPLS backbone. Xantaro, an internationally focused service integrator for alternative carriers, service providers and large enterprises, carried out the conception and planning of the new backbone and performed the installation, migration and implementation of the Juniper Networks components. At the end of the year the roll-out is finalized and the new MPLS backbone goes online completely. As a provider of triple play services Unitymedia runs Germany’s farthest integrated cable network. To satisfy the customer demands for high bandwidth, low and constant latency as well as high availability, the current backbone was replaced by a new designed homogeneous MPLS backbone with high-capacity Ethernet service routers of the MX series and switches of the EX series of Juniper Networks. These devices offer throughput of up to 960 Gbps and an outstanding, comprehensive service portfolio – an optimal premise for the launch of further interactive multimedia services. Xantaro took the responsibility for the conception of the new backbone concerning routing, MPLS, QoS and management. The service integrator carried out the installation, configuration, implementation and migration of the new MPLS backbone more than 50 Juniper MX960 and EX3200. These components are the result of Juniper Networks’ many years of experience in developing and producing high-performance routers for telecommunications networks. Furthermore, Xantaro supported Unitymedia’s Network Operation Center (NOC) with analysis and optimization of the network as well as training and further education of the NOC staff. „With Xantaro we have found a reliable, competent and very flexible partner who has taken care of a secure and trouble-free integration of the new MPLS backbone“, said Colin Büchner, Senior Vice President Network Operations & Technology at Unitymedia.
