Frisco Fiber Fight

Earlier this month, Light Reading reported that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) would soon start turning on its FiOS fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service in some parts of North Texas that had been traditionally served by AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) This is the first time a big incumbent telco has crossed into another's turf to offer FTTH and TV service. (See Verizon Plants FiOS in AT&T's Backyard.)

Verizon wouldn't say which communities outside its old phone network would first see FiOS, and, it turns out, they won't have to. We found one in a subdivision in Frisco, Texas, called Sterling Ranch. Click below to start the slideshow see for yourself:

Frisco: Fiber Battlefield

Behold the Sterling Ranch subdivision in Frisco,
where Verizon's FiOS service is moving into an area
already dominated by AT&T's U-verse service, cable, and satellite TV.

To our knowledge, this is the only chunk of land where someone can find AT&T U-verse equipment, AT&T FTTH gear, Verizon FTTH gear, and cable gear all within a few feet of one another. And, oddly, the two FTTH opponents are aiming to serve two totally different neighborhoods.

AT&T's fiber-to-the-home gear will be used in a greenfield community next to Sterling Ranch called Wyndsor Pointe. We'll have more on that little slice of heaven later.
