Huawei Touts 100G WDMJuly 28, 2008 | Post a comment
no ratings SHENZHEN, China -- Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced the successful development of its 100G wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) prototype. This is another breakthrough by Huawei in the optical network domain after its 40G transmission solution was recognized at Broadband World Forum Asia 2008 with an InfoVision Award. With a transmission distance of up to 2,000km without using electrical regenerators, Huawei' s 100G WDM prototype supports smooth upgrades from 10G/40G technologies. This innovation is expected to further promote and accelerate the commercial use of 100G WDM based solutions. The current boom in broadband services has placed significant bandwidth demands and 100G WDM technology represents the next-generation in high-speed transport. Operators can transmit 10 times the traffic as compared to 10G WDM technology, the most widely deployed networking bandwidth. 100G WDM lays the foundation for telecom operators to deploy ultra-broadband services such as HDTV and multi-play in the future. "The successful development of 100G WDM technologies reflects Huawei's strength in the optical network domain," said Christian Chua, president of Huawei' s Transport Network Product Line. “Huawei will continue to invest in long-haul high-speed transport technologies, promote the development of 100G WDM technologies, and will strive to alleviate the bandwidth pressure facing telecom operators today."
