TOKYO -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (J:COM), Japan’s largest multiple system operator (MSO), has selected Motorola’s channel bonding technology to deploy the company’s first DOCSIS® 3.0-based Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and cable modem capable of delivering up to 160Mbps throughput to residential and commercial ultra-broadband service customers. This deployment allows J:COM to efficiently deliver accelerated personal media experiences including fast Internet services in the highly competitive Japanese broadband market. It reaffirms Motorola’s global video leadership position and ability to deliver broadband everywhere including DOCSIS 3.0 solutions.
In Japan, a country with very high Internet penetration rates and known for its population of advanced broadband users, there is a strong interest in ultra-broadband data services – speeds upwards of 100Mbps – in support of advanced multimedia services like network based multi-player gaming, high quality video conferencing and peer-to-peer networking. Using Motorola’s DOCSIS 3.0-based BSR 64000 CMTS/Edge Router and SURFboard® SB6120 cable modems, J:COM can provide subscribers access to enhanced Internet services while maintaining uninterrupted support of existing operations and working with currently deployed DOCSIS 1.x and 2.0 cable modems.
”Motorola’s deep knowledge of cable and DOCSIS channel bonding technology and leadership position in video are key reasons why their DOCSIS 3.0-based solution will be deployed to support up to 160Mbps Internet service to J:COM customers,” said Mr. Tatsuya Yoshihara, deputy general manager service strategy division and general manager, New Technology Department, J:COM. ”Motorola’s DOCSIS 3.0-based solution provides a true next-generation broadband foundation and allows us to substantially grow our broadband service portfolio while protecting existing investments in currently deployed DOCSIS solutions.”
