Cisco reversed a three-quarter revenue slump in the fourth quarter, delivering $12.4 billion revenue, same as the year-ago quarter. Revenue for 2014 was $47.1 billion, down 3%.

Net GAAP income for the fourth quarter was $2.2 billion, or $0.43 per share. Non-GAAP net income was $2.8 billion, or $0.55 per share.

"We are executing well in a tough environment and delivered our best non-GAAP earnings per share quarter in our history. I'm pleased with how we are transforming our company over the past several years and that journey continues," John Chambers, Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

He added: "We are focused on growth, innovation and talent, especially in the areas of security, data center, software, cloud and Internet of everything. Our strategy is sound, our financials are strong, and our market leadership is secure. We have the team in place to deliver and are uniquely positioned to help our customers solve their biggest business problems."

Financial analysts expected Cisco's revenues would decline again, projecting revenues of $12.14 billion, down 2.2% from last year's $12.42 billion. (See Cisco Earnings: What to Watch For.)

We'll have more after Cisco's earnings call, which has just begun.

D-Link for one. They are networking equipment supplier in many of the Asian countries. They now lead the market in some product categories. More at: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Link

@nasimson, your scenario suggests a "strategic" focus for them in shifting to services and targeted growth markets.  They will have to develop that capability, it won't just evolve, and they will have to strategically focus.  Note:  I agree with you that the IoT might be a good channel for them.

Through SDN?

For that it would have to become the best software company, since it theorectically doesn't require specialized hardware.

And with the emergence of Clouds, such as Amazon's Io9 and Microsoft's Azure and Google...those companies will have enormous pressure to both to build in-house and also to put the price squeeze even on the vendors they choose!

How can Cisco reverse its revenue decline? I think it can be through SDN, IOT and more focus on developing world. Chinese and Taiwanese companies are beating Cisco big time in these territories.

How Long Can Cisco Delay Decline?
From the sounds of the press release, I really have to wonder how long Cisco can delay revenue declines.  It's hard to get much confident from such a generic statement; that could be almost any company right now.
