SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Enigma Semiconductor, an emerging technology leader in next-generation switching silicon, today announced availability of a new member of its HybriCoreT Switch chipset product line, aimed at access edge infrastructure equipment designed to carry high-bandwidth triple play services such as IPTV and VoIP which are the key drivers in the broadband access market. According to Infonetics Research, the number of IPTV subscribers in North America will increase more than 40-fold between 2005 and 2009.

Based on Enigma's HybriCore Architecture, the EN6150 Mesh Expansion chip is available now, adding support for mesh and multi-chassis system configurations. In combination with the EN6200 family of Fabric Manager devices this chipset enables 10G, 20G, 40G and 80G mesh blades to be developed for use in small network switches and routers. This chipset delivers the same scalability, density and line rate, fully non-blocking attributes for mesh and multi-chassis systems as Enigma's line of HybriCore products optimized for use in chassis configurations where dedicated switch cards are the norm.

"Service providers are looking to implement technologies that will help them expand their offerings toward value-add broadband services that include voice over IP, (VoIP), IPTV and other integrated entertainment choices," said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for IPTV at Infonetics. "Yet, with the deployment of these services in their infancy, these systems must be capable of delivering new services to increased numbers of users over time."
