Comcast Expands TiVo Footprint

4:45 PM -- TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO)'s second quarter earnings call won't get underway for another 30 minutes or so, but the digital video recorder (DVR) pioneer dropped a bit of news in the press release: Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) has begun to offer digital cable set-tops with the TiVo service on board in its Connecticut systems. (See TiVo Posts Q2.)

That marks the second Comcast region to get it. The MSO originally introduced it to customers in the Boston area. (See Spotting TiVo and Comcast Boots Up TiVo.) Comcast said it expects to "light up a full marketing campaign around TiVo in September" and will announce additional rollouts later in the year.

Cox Communications Inc. , TiVo's other U.S. cable partner, already has plans to offer TiVo-baked boxes starting with its New England-area systems. (See Cox Tees Up TiVo Test Bed .) That trial is already underway and is "on track" for a commercial launch later this year, TiVo said.
