China Mobile, KT, Bharti Airtel Demonstrate LTE TDD International Roaming at MWC 2013

Leading Chinese telecom operator China Mobile, Korean telecom operator KT (Korea Telecom) and Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel today jointly completed the first international LTE TDD roaming video call at the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The successful roaming demonstration marks another milestone for the continuing rapid global growth of LTE TDD.

The joint demo was simultaneously conducted at China Mobile and Bharti Airtel's MWC booths. At China Mobile's booth, a mobile WiFi hotspot was used with a Bharti Airtel SIM card as well as KT SIM card; and at Bharti Airtel's booth, a Huawei E5776 mobile WiFi hotspot was used with a China Mobile SIM card. To make the video call, both booths used a popular, proprietary video call application pre-installed on consumer tablet computers.

There were smart phones, the MiFi, Dongle, pad, CPE showcased in the demonstration area, including Huawei, Quanta and many other terminal vendors provided a full range of TD-LTE terminal, indicating that the TD-LTE terminal will show a flourishing mass growth in 2013. The users can experience the roaming video call in the MWC 2013. The video call was very smooth and attracted a lot of customers to visit and experience.

China Mobile and India Bharti are leaders of the LTE TDD industry, and play an important role in promoting its continuing global development. Huawei (LTE TDD networks for China Mobile and Bharti Airtel) and Ericsson (LTE FDD network for KT) have also helped played important roles in forwarding the development of LTE TDD. In 2012, roaming demos between Hangzhou, Shenzhen with Hong Kong were also conducted using Huawei and Ericsson equipment

China Mobile is the largest telecom operator in the world by number of subscribers. Bharti Airtel became the fourth largest operator in the world in 2012 by the number of subscribers. In April 2012, Bharti launched commercial LTE TDD services and launched India's first LTE TDD-compatible smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, in October.

In 2012, a total of 130 commercial LTE network were deployed worldwide. The China Mobile, KT and Bharti Airtel roaming demo aims to help further accelerate the large-scale commercial development of LTE for 2013.
