SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Big Switch Networks announces significant advancements to its SDN fabric products and introduces industry’s first hyperscale-inspired elastic pricing structure.

Hyperscale Networking For All - Chapter 2
The latest developments come just one year after Big Switch introduced its vision to make hyperscale-style networking accessible to all organizations. Through an external SDN controller, advanced fabric design and open networking (bare metal) hardware, Big Switch’s SDN solutions accelerate network transformations in mainstream enterprise and carrier data centers. Customers find it significantly easier to build and deploy next-generation networks that deliver the benefits of centralized management, network automation and reduced CapEx through open networking switch economics.

ACG Research recently completed an economic analysis comparing the deployment of Big Cloud Fabric to the most commonly encountered alternative found in data center networking as the present mode of operation. The CapEx and OpEx benefits of a next generation SDN fabric are immediate and ongoing. Big Cloud Fabric is 67% faster to install, accelerates new application deployment by 75%, is 4x more efficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting network issues, and lowers overall cost of operations - both CapEx and OpEx - by 40%.

BIG CLOUD FABRIC 3.0
Big Cloud Fabric supports open networking switches and delivers hyperscale-inspired innovation to SDN software. Advances in Big Cloud Fabric include deeper integration for both VMware and OpenStack environments which will provide customers with greater automation, resiliency, and simplicity.

For deploying resilient OpenStack clouds, Big Cloud Fabric 3.0 delivers a unified physical + virtual SDN fabric. Big Switch’s Switch Light software is deployed on open networking switches (Switch Light OS) as well as on virtualized KVM servers (Switch Light VX). Its OpenStack Neutron plugin for L2/L3 networking provides resiliency necessary for production-grade OpenStack deployments. The Big Cloud Fabric 3.0 Controller acts as the single pane for provisioning, troubleshooting, visibility and analytics of the entire physical and virtual network environment. This enables customers to deploy applications rapidly, simplifies operational workflows and provides immediate root-cause analysis when application performance issues arise. Big Switch is offering several starter kits, pre-configured with switch hardware, cables, support and Big Cloud Fabric software for OpenStack, starting at $49k.

Big Cloud Fabric 3.0 deepens its support for VMware solutions by natively supporting advanced network automation and deep visibility for vSphere environments.

BIG MONITORING FABRIC INNOVATIONS
Big Monitoring Fabric (formerly Big Tap) is a next-generation network packet broker (NPB) that leverages SDN principles and Open Networking switches to provide scale-out data center monitoring at ultra-low cost. Popular customer use cases for Big Monitoring Fabric include: Pervasive monitoring, remote monitoring, mobile/LTE monitoring & DMZ / Inline security.

Big Monitoring Fabric innovations include: - support for scale-out and low cost monitoring services such as de-duplication and packet modification with an x86 service node, with the Big Monitoring Fabric controller acting as the single pane of glass for both monitoring fabric and service nodes for simplified operational experience - support high density 100G switch at commodity economics to meet the massive bandwidth demands for monitoring carrier and cloud data centers

ELASTIC SDN PRICING
Big Switch first brought hyperscale networking architecture to customers, and introduces a hyperscale-inspired elastic pricing model to provide customers with flexibility, reduced cost and a pay-per-use consumption model for hardware, software and support. For the same CapEx amount used to purchase the SDN fabric -- physical switches, software and support -- customers can elect to receive twice the capacity with an “Elastic SDN Fabric” at no additional cost. For example, for the price of a 4 rack configuration, Big Switch would ship 8 racks of SDN fabric. The excess capacity of Elastic SDN Fabric is consumed on an as needed basis at $599/switch/month.

Big Switch’s Elastic SDN Pricing model enables customers to spend CapEx for average utilization while enabling their future growth or temporary additional capacity on demand. Initially, Big Switch is offering Elastic SDN Pricing for Big Cloud Fabric in Small, Medium and Large configurations. The current Big Cloud Fabric pricing model and starter kits remains intact for standard configurations.
