HP Preps Launch of NFV Unit Ė Report
HP wants a piece of the network functions virtualization (NFV) action, and has appointed its current head of networking, Bethany Mayer, to lead the new NFV business unit, according to Re/code report which includes the text of an internal memo announcing the change.
HP Inc. (NYSE: HPQ)'s Communications and Media Solutions division has existing relationships with every major communications service provider (CSP) and many major communications infrastructure vendors and, as the memo shows, the IT giant believes it can leverage those connections and its datacenter/cloud networking developments to build a business around the NFV requirements of the world's CSPs. According to the Re/code report, HP is set to announce its NFV plans during Mobile World Congress 2014.
HP is already a significant player in software-defined networking (SDN) and has long been one of the major suppliers of Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT) systems to the world's telcos.
