CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Hitron-Americas Technologies Inc., the fastest-growing DOCSIS customer premises equipment (CPE) manufacturer in North America, has joined the RDK community as an Advanced Support Program (ASP) partner and Platinum Media Sponsorship Program (MSP) member to rapidly develop and support the next generation of broadband services.

“It’s an exciting time to join the RDK community,” said Todd Babic, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Hitron Technologies Americas. “Clearly, the community has significant momentum with manufacturers and MSOs alike. With upcoming DOCSIS 3.1 gateway deployments, we will also see the proliferation of RDK-B powered CPE. With Hitron’s long and proud history of first-to-market deployments, we expect to be leading this new generation of DOCSIS customer premises equipment.”

Service providers are facing a landmark shift in subscriber home networks, due to the rise of streaming video and the rising number of consumer devices now connecting to the Internet. The Reference Design Kit for Broadband, or RDK-B, aims to create a standardized IP endpoint, ensuring that critical functions are present across different silicon and outsourced hardware solutions while minimizing product testing costs.

Hitron delivers more than three million DOCSIS-based products annually to major cable operators worldwide. The company has recognized significant success and growth based on its unique market position as a completely vertically-integrated OEM. Hitron’s hardware and software are designed in-house with manufacturing in Hitron’s newly-expanded factory in Suzhou, China. With these resources, Hitron develops products that are as feature-rich as they are affordable and often first to market.

Hitron’s latest products include a full suite of DOCSIS 3.1 gateways. To satisfy a market that is diverse in its needs, Hitron has designed a broad gateway product portfolio, from the CODA-4580, a DOCSIS 3.1 gateway with 802.11ac 4x4 Wi-Fi, to the premium CODA-4596, a DOCSIS 3.1 eMTA gateway with 802.11ac 8x8 Wi-Fi, bonded MoCA 2.0 and IoT support (Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread), Hitron is in a strong position to meet every MSO’s product requirements and to continue as a DOCSIS CPE leader.

RDK-B Functionality
The open RDK software solution enables TV and Internet service providers to standardize certain elements of customer premises equipment while easily customizing the applications and user experiences that ride on top.

RDK-B provides common methods to manage complex broadband functions such as home-networking interfaces, including Wi-Fi and Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), wide area networking, local area networking, device management and diagnostics, smart home / IoT (Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee) and video service (multicast video). Both software solutions are available at no cost to RDK licensees in an open-source manner, and RDK community member companies can contribute software changes and enhancements to either RDK stack.

RDK has been licensed by more than 120 companies, including multiple MVPD’s globally, such as Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Liberty Global, and Kabel Deutschland.
