Does it belong in the 'school of non-thought' that paved the way for e-anything and i-anything?

'Webinar' Banished

The Light Reading copy desk was decimated at the dawn of the New Year by a perfect storm in the wordsmithing world, leading to a recommendation that the word "Webinar" be "Banished from the Queen's English for Misuse, Overuse, and General Uselessness."

A Webinar, of course, is "a seminar on the Web about any number of topics."Emotional word watchers voted to place Webinars under the bus, noting:

"Ouch! It hurts my brain. It should be crushed immediately before it spreads."

"Yet another non-word trying to worm its way into the English language due to the Internet. It belongs in the same school of non-thought that brought us e-anything and i-anything."

This apparent post-9/11 surge in anti-Webinar sentiment might be taken seriously were the source not the PR department at Lake Superior State University.

Well, it is what it is.
