TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO) and Pace plc have introduced the XG1, a six-tuner, QAM/IP hybrid gateway that marks the first product to come out of a partnership the vendors announced in February. The gateway features a Docsis 3.0 cable modem with the ability to bond eight downstream channels and four upstream channels, TiVo's user interface, and a minimum of 500GB of storage. No deployment partners for the new device have been named, but Charter Communications Inc. , RCN Corp. and Suddenlink Communications are among U.S. cable operators that are leasing TiVo's line of Premiere HD-DVRs. TiVo has also unveiled two products that expand its whole-home DVR product line: an IP set-top client for secondary TVs, and TiVo Stream, a device that transcodes video into IP format so it can be viewed on tablets and other mobile devices. The IP set-top is made to work with the TiVo's Premiere Q gateway, which uses Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) technology to distribute video over the home network. Chipmaker Entropic Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTR) has inked a deal to integrate Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK)'s Reference Design Kit (RDK) to help manufactures develop IP-based client set-top boxes. The Comcast RDK is a pre-integrated software bundle that powers the operator's tru2way boxes, as well as hybrid QAM/IP and IP-only set-tops. Broadcom Corp. (Nasdaq: BRCM) announced a similar deal in January. Comcast has yet to outline its entire IP set-top strategy, but industry sources say the operator has an IP-only HD client on the roadmap called X3. itaas Inc. has also licensed the Comcast RDK as part of a plan to provide software development, integration and testing services to set-top box and chipmakers that intend to take advantage of the operator's initiative.

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) confirmed Monday that its next-generation of Docsis 3.0 Puma6 silicon will come in two flavors: a basic version that can bond 16 downstream channels and four upstream channels, and a speedier 24/8 "media gateway" implementation. Intel, which is previewing the chip at the show, said SK Broadband of South Korea is making plans to use Puma6-based gear to power 1Gbit/s pilots in 2013. Alan Crouch, VP and GM of Intel's service provider division, says Puma6 chips are sampling now, with expectations that production will ramp up in early 2013. Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) has tapped Motorola Mobility LLC 's SecureMedia Encryptonite ONE HLS+ platform to secure the operator's IP-delivered multi-screen video services. TW Cable has deployed on-demand and linear video apps for iOS and Android devices, but the operator also plans to use Moto's technology to secure video on game consoles, connected TVs and Blu-ray players. Edgeware AB has integrated its Orbit family of servers with Adrenalin, SeaChange International Inc. (Nasdaq: SEAC)'s new backoffice for traditional video-on-demand and multi-screen video services. The deal comes into play as SeaChange becomes more software-centric and looks to link its backoffice with more third-party hardware suppliers. (See Is the Worst Over at SeaChange? )

Kudelski Group 's Nagra unit has unveiled a gateway based on OpenTV middleware that transcodes and secures broadcast cable signals into IP streams that can be viewed on tablets and other connected devices.
