The Christmas Tree Channel

Canadian cable operator Shaw Communications Inc. has proven to be a broadband pioneer over the years, setting the pace for high-speed Internet penetration in the Great White North. This holiday season, the MSO is applying its creative spirit to cutting-edge digital television programming.

On December 21, Shaw launched The Christmas Tree Channel. Airing through January 2, this tannenbaum television spectacular offers "on-going coverage of a 50-foot Colorado Spruce that is magnificently decorated with more than 6,000 multicoloured light bulbs and hundreds of festive ornaments," according to a Shaw press release.

That's right, rather than cutting down a spruce, Canadians can opt to spruce up their homes for the holidays by tuning to digital TV channel 280.

Shaw's latest yuletide TV effort is an add-on to its long-running Fire Log Channel. Talk about programming synergies! [Ed. note: For some of us down further south, we have access to the MOJO channel's iteration of the Yule Log… in hi-def and 5.1 sound, no less.]

"The holiday fire log is a 21 year tradition at Shaw that our viewers eagerly anticipate," said Shaw president Peter Bissonnette. "Our stellar cast of fire log and hand is what keeps our customers wanting to see this holiday classic year after year."

Shaw explains that "Fire log fans of old and new will cozy up in front of their television sets this holiday season, and watch what critics are calling the finest holiday programming for all ages. Through the magic of television, Shaw customers will enjoy all the warmth of a natural, flickering fire set to soothing holiday music without the hassle of chopping and hauling wood and stoking flames."

Smokin'!

Shaw has not yet announced plans to add The Menorah Channel in 2008.
