BT Plans iPad Alternative

10:00 AM -- BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) is having a busy week -- announcing a profit, expanding its FTTx program, and investing in a cloud gaming specialist. (See BT Ramps FTTx Plans, Turns a Profit.)

As if that weren't enough, the operator has also unveiled its own tablet PC that it plans to sell to its customers starting in 2011. BT insists it's not intended as an iPad-killer, or designed to be used as an alternative to a mobile phone. Instead, it's a multimedia device designed for use in the home. BT has developed the software and applications smarts for the device, but hasn't identified its hardware partner.
