Docsis 3.0 Gear Tracker

There was jubilation in cable equipment land Friday after CableLabs officially meted out the first-ever Docsis 3.0 certifications to a total of six cable modem models, and awarded "Full" 3.0 qualification status to two cable modem termination systems (CMTSs) -- both from Casa Systems Inc. (See Modems, CMTSs Break Docsis 3.0 Barrier .)

Now that we've got a sizable pool of CableLabs-approved Docsis 3.0 gear, it's high time we provided an updated list of vendors and models that have made it through with passing grades so far. Also, Texas Instruments Inc. (NYSE: TXN) confirmed today that its chipsets are powering the just-certified cable modems.

While vendors are no doubt delighted about getting their modems 3.0-certified for interoperability and retail distribution, cable operators will certainly be pleased to see that two embedded multimedia terminal adapters (E-MTAs), which also support VOIP services, made the grade as well. On that count, Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT)'s two-line SBV6220 made it through, as did the Arris Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) Touchstone 702G (See Arris E-MTA Gets 3.0 Stamp.)
